• TYPE LOCALITY. Japan.

• SYNONYMS: melancholica Bryk, 1942.

• RANGE. Islands of E. Asia; the record from Korea (Kurentzov, 1970) requires confirmation.

• DISTRIBUTION AND VARIATION. The Sakhalin and Kuril Islands. UPS spots vary in size up to totally absent.

• HABITATS AND BIOLOGY. Forest edges and clearings. Flight period: June-July. Host plant in Japan (Fukuda et al., 1984): Sasa kurilensis.
